American Legion sponsoring Boys State picks

The American Legion’s Ennis post will sponsor two boys in a weeklong summer program aimed at giving insight into the inner workings of the U.S. government, but first, they must apply.
Texas Boys State, an educational leadership training program, will run from June 5-11 at the University of Texas at Austin. It is open to male high school students who have completed their junior year and have at least one semester of high school left. Being accepted is based in part on a strong desire to attend. Interested students can pick up applications — due April 15 — at the Ennis High School front office. Applicants must have recommendations from school officials, have the permission of parents or guardians to attend and be certified by the American Legion post.

At Boys State, participants will learn about government by participating in simulated city, county and state governments.
