Slaughterhouse spurs opposition

A group of residents concerned with the possibility that a slaughterhouse project could be developed near their homes are getting organized.
Ellis County commissioners denied the slaughterhouse proposed by Shamsul Ahmed in November, citing that the slaughterhouse would be incompatible with existing land use.

The site, located off of Slama Road near the border of Ellis and Navarro counties, is in close proximity to a residential area. At the public hearing where the slaughterhouse was denied, many area residents told commissioners they are concerned with large trucks using the road and the pollution associated with a slaughterhouse. Decreasing property values were also a concern.
