Lions topple Midway to separate from district pack

With each game it plays, Lion baseball is raising expectations in the 2010 season.
On Friday, Ennis (11-4-1, 5-0) hit the road to face its closest foe in the district standings — the Midway Panthers. Seven innings of pitcher’s duel later, Ennis earned a 2-1 victory — its fourth-straight one-run district win — to pull at least two games ahead of everyone in 16-4A.

“I’m very happy with the outcome and this is the scrappiest bunch of kids I’ve been around in a long time,” said coach Kevin Kalinec. “They just keep finding ways to win. This is four nail-biters in a row; I’m getting grayer and older by the minute, but I’m also enjoying the ride. I’ve never been a part of so many one-run games.
