City offers $376,000 for parcel

The city of Ennis has announced plans to buy a piece of property from Ennis ISD to build a soccer complex, pending approval of the sale from the EISD School Board.
At Monday’s Chamber of Commerce luncheon, Ennis Mayor Russell Thomas made the announcement of the city’s intentions to chamber members.

The site, located on Ennis Parkway near U.S. 287, was once the location of Ennis Intermediate School, but soil conditions eventually led to structural problems for the school and it was demolished. The parking lot is the only thing left of the school, and the city hopes to build the complex around the parking lot.

Thomas said buying property from EISD is good use of public funds and public land.
