Top 20 edition should be a point of pride

We’re truly excited to bring you our first Top 20 Under 40 special edition this week.
As you’re reading this, the editions will be rolling off of our press here at the Ennis Daily News, and you can rest assured that the work that has been done to highlight the young and upcoming members of the community in which we live is at a level you can be proud of.

Perhaps the best part of all of it is you took part in making it happen.

We solicited nominations from you, our readers, to determine who you wanted to see appear in the Top 20. After a few hard judgment calls, we have the list you’ll see before you in Wednesday’s edition of the paper. Not a list ranked from No. 1 to No. 20, but a list of influential community members who each are No. 1 in their own way.

To us, the work stands for itself. Learning more about the people we’ll be working with in the coming years is a neat side effect of the effort, and that was an unplanned but welcome benefit. It says a lot about our area that we can pull 20 outstanding nominees from a list much larger and feel good about every single one.

We think that our job here helping you to learn more about our community demanded this kind of an effort. We understand that the disconnection between the older and younger generations is a void that we can help to bridge, and that was a large part of the undertaking’s purpose. It was a natural extension of our efforts to help you gain greater understanding of your area every day when you pick up the Ennis Daily News.

We did not only pick the most visible of nominees, either. We are proud to include some less-known individuals in this edition who stand out to us for their personal sacrifices, their work ethics and courage to keep themselves going under stress and hardship. It takes special people to lead, indeed.

Keep your eyes peeled for our first edition of Top 20 Under 40 in the Wednesday paper.

We hope you like it.
