Airport plans generate back-and-forth

Supporters and opponents of plans to build a new airport in Ennis off of U.S. 287 veered a public environmental hearing Thursday off course, turning discussion to possible benefits and perceived problems with airport project as a whole.
The environmental study revealed only minor impacts to the area surrounding the proposed site, taking noise, air, wild life and habitat pollution into consideration.

Business and civic leaders were largely for the project as a force to spur local industrial and economic health, while a handful of residents registered to speak against the project, mostly on subjects of cost and the need to acquire land owned by private residents.
