District, hospital help student-athletes meet need

Next week, Ennis ISD, in coordination with Ennis Regional Medical Center, will offer free physicals to student athletes.
In order to participate in Ennis ISD athletic programs, students are required to undergo a physical exam every two years. In accordance with UIL policies, students entering the seventh, ninth or 11th grades must get a physical. In addition, any student who, since their last physical, was under a doctor’s care for an injury must also have a new physical completed.

Although physicals are necessary, the cost of getting one can be high. EISD Trainer Chad McCune said this can be a burden for families, which is the main reason the school district and hospital are teaming up to give physicals at no cost to the student or their families.
