Settlement pending

The Ellis County Commissioners Court has signed off on a settlement agreement with Illinois-based Kehe Foods over a disputed tax abatement with the county and city of Mildothian.
Commissioners accepted a payout of $379,380 from Kehe to settle standing arbitration in the dispute that has pitted the county and city of Midlothian against Kehe since 2008.

The city and county contend Kehe failed to hire the necessary employees to meet requirements for a 50-percent tax abatement set out in 2004, and Kehe contends physical improvements to the building in Midlothian were enough to meet the abatement, said Assistant District Attorney Lee Auvenshine.
