City tweaks insurance

Health insurance coverage changes signed into law by President Barack Obama earlier this year have required Ennis to restructure its health insurance for its more than 170 city employees.
Instead of the one-level, full-coverage plan that was offered in prior years, city commissioners accepted a proposal from United Health Care that offers three levels of coverage — a minimum plan with a $2,300 deductible, a medium plan with a $1,000 deductible and a full coverage plan, which offers a $500 deductible. For the medium and full coverage plans, employees will be responsible for 9 percent of total premium costs for their coverage.
