State investigates possible TB case

The Texas Department of State Health Services is investigating a possible case of tuberculosis in Ellis County.
Christine DeLoma, DSHS assistant press officer, specified the possibly infected individual is not from Ennis, but visited a doctor in Ellis County and is suspected to have the disease. Full culture testing will require 90 days to determine whether the individual has tuberculosis. which is a contagious bacterial infection most often affecting the lungs.

She said the standard protocol is for a subject who is suspected to have tuberculosis to be isolated at their home and put on medication to treat the disease during the culturing period.
