Holiday sees reports of fireworks

Police reports show more than a dozen reports of residents calling in illegal use of fireworks within the city limits over the weekend and Monday.
The Ennis Police Department bulletin report covering the Fourth of July weekend also shows more than a dozen arrests on alcohol-related charges, ranging from public intoxication to charges of driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Reports of fireworks led officers to patrol neighborhoods around Ennis looking for perpetrators, but reports seem to show no cases where officers found individuals breaking the city ordinance. Ennis codes ban the use of fireworks and other pyrotechnic explosive devices inside city limits or within 5,000 feet of city limits.

In two cases, officers made contact with juveniles who allegedly were using fireworks, but no arrests or citations were issued.
