City makes historic land deal

The Ennis Economic Development Corporation signed off on the biggest industrial development land sale in Ennis’ history Tuesday.
Corporation board members deliberated on the sale of the 255.7-acre chunk north of Sterilite — a parcel approximately 2.5 times the size of the Sterilite parcel — for around 10 minutes in an executive session Tuesday afternoon before approving the sale. For how much and to whom remains a mystery at present.

City Manager Steve Howerton said that precaution is being taken to protect an impending development project in the final stages of the negotiation process. To elaborate, Howerton mentioned the city’s involvement in courting 11 major industrial prospects in the city as the meeting began Tuesday that would together represent a total investment of $260 million and a potential employment of 4,172 employees.
