Police haul in dope
Ennis police are probing leads and conducting air surveillance after finding more than 800 marijuana plants growing in a cultivated field behind Legend Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Sunday.
Det. Sgt. Mike Hopson said the plants have a net street value of around $400,000 all tolled and equipment found on the scene tends to support the idea the operation is another in a string of pot fields that have been found in Ellis County in the last year. Similar tent and camping equipment setups have been used by growers to keep locations under guard, he said.
Police spent several hours in the area around Medical Center Drive and Marble Road on Sunday clearing out the marijuana, Hopson said, and are working with area law enforcement to track down the growers, questioning locals and looking for identifying information at the scene.
