Accident stops traffic on lake bridge

Traffic came to a stop on the Hwy. 34 Bardwell Lake Bridge after a three-car accident that hospitalized one passenger.
Driving a gold Chevy Blazer, Naoma Duncan Gibson, 76, of Ennis was traveling westbound across the bridge towing her son, Milton Glenn Gibson, 55, of Waxahachie, in a green Chevrolet Cavalier. Milton Gibson told Ellis County Sheriff’s Officer Brian Shahan they were traveling at about 35 mph when the accident occurred.
Coming up behind the Gibsons, Francisca Hernandez, 66, of Ennis was driving a red Ford Focus when she noticed too late the two cars in front of her were going much slower than expected. Hernandez said she attempted to go around but saw a car headed toward her and instead rear-ended the Cavalier.
Anita Herrera, 58, of Ennis, a passenger in Hernandez’s vehicle, was taken to Ennis Regional Medical Center for injuries suffered from the collision. Her condition was unknown at press time.
Units from the Ennis Police Department, Ennis Fire Department, the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, East Texas Medical Center and Texas Department of Transportation were at the scene.
