Harrell’s impact won’t soon be forgotten

While Sam Harrell formally concluded his football coaching career earlier this month, the legacy he left at Ennis High will remain at the forefront of the minds of Lion fans for many years to come.
The Brownwood native began his head-coaching career at Reagan County from 1990-93, and then manned the sideline at Ennis from 1994-2009. His overall record at Ennis ended up being 153-51 with state championships in 2000, 2001, and 2004 to go with state semifinal appearances in 1999 and 2002.

Adversity in early days
To former Lion football player and Harrell’s friend Ronnie Greer, the coach was about far more than stats. Greer recalls meeting Harrell in 1994.
