Deputy stops suspects cold

An Ellis County Sheriff’s Deputy managed to stop a theft in progress Wednesday outside Ferris.
Lt. James Saulter, public information officer for the ECSO, said Deputy Joseph Maddox was ending his shift driving on Batchler Road when he happened upon three suspects in the process of stealing scrap metal from a resident’s property.

“Essentially, he was driving down the road and saw a vehicle that looked out of place,” Saulter said. “He knew that spot had been hit a couple of times with people stealing scrap metal, and the older gentleman who owns the place has been upset and made reports to us.”
