911 calls lead to drug charges

A 44-year-old Ennis man is in jail after making several phone calls to the 911 emergency line Wednesday evening, leading police to find drugs in the man’s residence.
According to Ennis police, at approximately 9:45 p.m. Officers Jeff Bates and Paul Asby responded to the location from which four 911 phone calls were made.
The suspect’s wife met with the officers when they arrived and told them she “forgot to take the phone away” from her husband. The officers made contact with the suspect, who claimed he made the 911 calls because the refrigerator in the kitchen was on fire.
Bates reported that while speaking with the man, Asby noticed white powder he suspected to be methamphetamine in an ashtray out in plain sight. The man was taken into custody and transported to Ennis police department without further incident and the suspected drugs were confiscated and tested.
Stephen Wayne Huffman, 44, of Ennis was charged with harassment-911 abuse and possession of a controlled substance less than one gram.
