Kernow Storm holding open soccer tryouts
The Ennis-based Kernow Storm select soccer club is looking to build some new teams. The club has open practices on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6:30-8:15 p.m. and everyone is welcome. Practices are located on Oak Grove Road at the Schirm Building soccer complex.
Specific club teams with openings include the ’95 boys team and any boy age 11-13 is eligible. Club director Antony Penna said the ’95 boys are the best U13 team in Ellis County and one of the top 30 teams in North Texas. The ’95 girls team has spots any girl age 11-13 can tryout for.
The ’94 boys team has openings and Penna said it’s a strong new squad that has attracted players from some of the best teams in Dallas. Any players 14 or younger can tryout and the club’s ’94 girls team also has openings available.
The ’93 boys team (U15) has spots available for interested boys or girls. Finally, there are also a few openings on both the Kernow Storm U16 and U19 boys’ teams.
Tryouts for these teams will be held from July 2-10 at the Ennis High soccer practice field. For more information, please visit www.stormfc.net. You may also call 254-220-3284 or 972-768-6054.

ESA select soccer holding tryouts

Ennis Stars SC is the first official select soccer program of the Ennis Soccer Association.
The club is under the leadership of Mike Erwerle, who’s enjoyed success as an ESA coach and played the sport for 40 years. He’s also the ESA vice president and referee assignor, in addition to a member of the Best Southwest League A&D board. Erwerle represents the ESA at the North Texas State Soccer Association and is authorized by that organization to instruct potential “G” and “F” coaches.
Both Erwerle and his assistant coach, Julian Devora, are Grade 8 Referees and Devora will be the fitness coach for Ennis Stars SC. Myung Kim, a professional player for seven years as a member of FC Seoul, will be responsible for the organization’s skill training.
Mario Vasquez, ESA president, will coach the club’s girls’ teams while the club manager and assistant coach will be Joel Gallegos. Nery Quintana, currently the goalkeeper of the FC Dallas youth team, will also be the goalkeeper coach for Ennis Stars SC. Quintana is a former goalie for the Bolivian National Team.
The goal of Ennis Stars SC is to provide the chance for local youth to play at a higher level than recreational soccer. The fee to participate in the program is capped by the ESA and it’s a flat fee of $250, which club officials say is considerably less expensive than most other soccer clubs.
Free training for Ennis Stars SC is currently underway and tryouts will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on both July 2 and July 6, as well as July 7 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tryouts will be held at the ESA soccer field at the IOOF Lodge (2309 Kaufman St).
Club officials ask interested players to register for the tryouts in advance. For more information, please call 469-658-5175 or logon to www.geocities.com/ennisstars/sc1.html.
