Avalon ISD canceled school today after a storm passed through the area, wreaking havoc on the Avalon campus.

Avalon’s schools should reopen tomorrow after a forced shutdown today when a Monday afternoon tornado ripped through the community.

Damage to district buildings was significant, said Superintendent David Del Bosque, and the daylong shutdown comes to allow for cleanup and damage assessment. The district expects an adjuster from the Texas Association of School Boards by day’s end.

“We have some water damage inside the buildings, but not too much roof damage,” Del Bosque said. “The old gymnasium got beaten up pretty badly.”
