Averett reflects on serving as principal at EHS


You can’t blame David Averett for waxing nostalgic. Headed to a new position (Executive Director of Accountability and Compliance) at the central offices of the Ennis Independent School District after 14 years at Ennis High School, he has a bank of positives to draw upon. Closing a chapter in his life, the past 11 years as principal, has made him glad he chose this career direction over several other options. Through junior and senior high school he had plans to become a physician. “I enjoyed science, especially biology,” he said this week. “When I entered The University of Texas at Austin, I chose biology as a degree plan.” Then his paradigm shifted to psychology, though he did finish with a minor in microbiology and zoology.
