Band hits high notes at state competition

At least nineteen of forty-seven Ennis High School band students took on the best in the state on Monday, June 3, at the University of Texas and earned medals. The group had entered the University Interscholastic League’s state solo and ensemble contest in Austin. Directors Gary Goodwin, Charles Rockwell, Brian Cupp and Steve Bunch led a host of E-Band musicians with Goodwin stating they “all performed well at this difficult competition.” There were 19 who earned medals while four brought home a pair of state medals. Those with two medals included Caden Bunch, Nathan Matous, Jose Puente and Lucas Ramirez. The 15 who won single medals were Christian Aguinaga, Giovanni Aguinaga, Jessica Dixon, Chase Hoffman, Mya Majette, Olivia Murtha, Sarah Nicolaysen, Faith Perez, Trinity Plain, Rosa Rangel, Jose Rojo, Kaitlyn Roznovsky, Jacob Slovak, Josef Slovak and Myrza Valles.
