Setting sights on the harvest after record rains

Russian-American novelist Vladimir Nabokov once said, “Do not be angry with the rain; it simply does not know how to fall upwards.”

Area grower Bob Beakley also does what comes naturally. Like his sunflowers he soaks up the sun while tracking it across the sky.
After May brought 17.5 inches of rain to Bardwell, a full 12 inches above normal for the month, one of the most prominent farmers in Texas seeks no sympathy. His sights are set on the harvest.
