City: Dialogue open, welcome on airport
City officials said they are willing and welcoming all feedback regarding its plan for a replacement airport. City Manager Scott Dixon said in an email that while selection is critical it is also a very methodical process. “Our team of expert airport planners and engineers is under contract to recommend to us sites which meet all federal regulations for airports,” Dixon said. “Criteria is based on environmental conditions, including the presence of wetlands, transmission lines, historic artifacts, and endangered species. The Texas Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration oversee what is called an “environmental assessment”. The process began this fall, and all Ennis citizens were invited to a public meeting to learn more about why Ennis is seeking federal funding to build a new airport. A presentation was made by members of the KSA Group of McKinney, a civil engineer company that is heading up the project along with the city, at the meeting earlier this month. The city advertised the meeting through the newspaper and promoted on all of Ennis’ social media including the website and on the board at City Hall. At the meeting, the public reviewed a large map of possible sites and was encouraged to mark additional locations they believe to be worthy of consideration.Read this story and more in your Weekday edition of The Ennis News.
