City Hall plans coming together


City Hall and the Ennis Municipal Building have served their purpose, done their time and will give way to renovated new digs on North Sherman Street next year. For some, its about time. Decades have passed since the leaders in Ennis began holding meetings with the public and conducting civic business at its current location on West Brown Street. But rather than construct a new city hall, a decision was made to lease space in what once was the old Ennis Business Forms (EBF) building on the corner of Sherman and West Knox. The current structure is across the street from the Ennis ISD central offices. The building is now owned by Fort Worth developer, Fran McCarthy, of Central Cities Properties. Using Penfold Construction, of Ennis, the plan is to modernize and renovate the three-story building, which has sat idle for over five years.
