City slightly alters Dallas Street plans

Because of a natural gas explosion last month in Dallas where a majority of Atmos workers have currently focused their attention, Ennis has had to slightly alter its plans for the reconstruction on Dallas Street. According to a press release from the city’s Economic Development Corporation, the Fain Group, Inc., were originally slated to begin with the alleys. The alley work would be in coordination with franchise utility providers Atmos Energy, Oncor, AT&T, and Spectrum. The plan was for Atmos Energy to begin digging in the alleys, replacing their infrastructure first, and for Fain to follow with the city’s new water and sewer lines. The initial decision to start in the alleyways was a time saving measure, cost saving effort, and general safety issue, the release states. The scheduled work was set to begin February 26. However, on Feb. 23, a natural gas explosion in northwest Dallas occurred killing a 12-year old girl in her home. The incident caused Atmos Energy to announce on March 1 that natural gas service would be shut off for 2,800 Dallas customers as crews worked to replace all mains, service lines, and meters.
