City weighs tax rate versus ability to grow

With a proposed two-and-a-half cent property tax increase per $100 property valuation on the table for Ennis, City Manager Scott Dixon commented on the need for the proposed hike from $0.66 cents back to $0.695, Ennis’ original “historic rate.”

Ennis has fallen behind six other cities in Ellis County in terms of new value market development, which means growing new, taxable, commercial and residential properties within city limits.
