This is the fourth of six articles in a series detailing aspects of the city’s proposed

downtown master plan. The next two days, The Ennis Daily News will reveal two more

pieces.

Once home to the city’s sprawling interurban railway, the downtown master

planners have a few ideas about what to do with Dallas Street.

According to the project manager, Ashley Shook, the proposed downtown master

plan took the historical and natural layout of Ennis and ran with it, so Dallas Street

works as one of the two axes in the downtown design. Shook suggested that if there

were a main north-to-south access for the downtown, it would be Dallas Street.

Ennis Main Street Vice-Chairman Jake Holland said it was described to him like a

mall with a Macy’s and a Dillard’s at each end, where shoppers can walk up and

down the street, stopping at each place along the way.
