Mall planned for Main Street in DMP

No downtown would be complete without a Main Street, and Ennis’ proposed
downtown master plan wouldn’t be complete without a Main Street Mall.
One of the largest attractions in the proposed plan, Mesa Planning’s project
manager, Ashley Shook, says the idea for the Main Street Mall is to have a gathering
space for fixed, permanent events as well as yearly events.
For example, Shook and the other planners suggest the space could be used for the
Farmers Market vendors as well as vendors in the city’s annual Bluebonnet Trails
Festival and Polka Festival.
“The first thing we noticed about Northwest and Southwest Main was the road
right-of-way between the buildings and the railroad tracks is very large,” Shook said.
“If you’re entering Ennis from the east side, you see the buildings, which is great, but
you have this very strange feeling of, ‘Am I in downtown, or am I on the edge of
downtown? I’m not really sure.”
