Out with the old, in with the new

Justin Tubbs

Part of the Ennis’ fledgling downtown master plan implementation includes dressing the sidewalks to

give them a new look.

The city at least took the first step to doing that this week, when city workers took chainsaws to four

diseased trees at the corners of Ennis Avenue and Dallas Street. The plan is to replace those big trees

with something a little more seasonal and to add permanent fixtures such as benches and trash

receptacles to make downtown a more welcoming environment for pedestrians.

Ennis economic development coordinator Marty Nelson said the new additions will likely be in as soon

as the end of April.
