The Path to Downtown: Ennis Avenue

Downtown planners have described Ennis Avenue as the concept that ties the whole downtown master plan together.

Thriving is Ennis’ Interstate 45 corridor market, which, according to Mesa Planning Project Manager Ashley Shook, generates $328 million annually in sales, much higher than the projected potential for the area – $122.8 million.

The question she and the other planners had to answer was why that $206 million in imported sales has remained isolated in the I-45 corridor instead of spreading to downtown.
“Our job was to find out what the barriers were, and luckily for Ennis, those barriers were really physical barriers,” Shook said.
