Commissioners Court reviews allocating new vehicles

The Ellis County Commissioners Court met on October 23 to discuss a lengthy agenda. A quorum was present, and the Court was called into session. The consent agenda was presented and approved. Most of other agenda items were approved as well. There was lengthy discussion concerning the allocation of monies for purchase of vehicles for the Budget year 2018-2019. County Judge Carol Bush began the discussion by announcing her plan to abstain from any vote on allocation of monies for vehicles while she was on hand to facilitate the discussion and answer questions. Bush did recommend that a new maintenance vehicle be purchased because of the current vehicle being totaled. Commissioner Butler proposed an allocation of one new vehicle for the County Constables to have them in newer vehicle for “5 to 6” years. The Sheriff’s Office also requested newer vehicles for patrol needs of up to six vehicles at a cost of “approximately $48,000” per vehicle by moving some equipment from older vehicles. The item was tabled until later in the meeting to proceed with other items of business before the court. Read stories like this and more in your latest edition of The Ennis News.
