Cook Center’s Brazzell speaks to NARFE


The National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Chapter 1191 held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, November 13 at the Sirloin Stockade in Corsicana. The guest speaker was Dr. Bruce Brazell, director of the Cook Center Planetarium at Navarro College in Corsicana. The Cook Center, located at 3100 W. Collin St., has been open since 1997 and has hosted a large number of visitors. Brazell has been the director of the center for 17 years and has been involved in astronomy for 25 years. Brazell discussed the solar system, its planets and the earth we live on. The criteria for, and characteristics of the earth and the planets in our solar system were described along with the unique nature of our host planet which supports life. The various numbers of moons for the planets, asteroids and other space materials were discussed including the Big Bang theory, dark energy, gravity and expansion of the universe.
