Czeching it out


The National Polka Festival, now in its 53rd year, honors Ennis’ Czechoslovakian history, with a particular focus on the polka music and food that are such inviting aspects of the culture. Many visitors come regularly. Chara Neil of Dallas, whose family has Czech roots, has attended for four years with friends and neighbors. “My grandmother was a Blazek,” she said. “And hearing her stories of the old days always intrigued me as a little girl. But only recently have I been interested in celebrating my ties to the culture. Ennis is a great place to do that.
