Deadline for Supt. applicants passes

Ennis Independent School District officials will soon begin the vetting process for those applying for the school board superintendent position left open after the departure of Dr. John Chapman, III, in June. Bill Tarleton, who is part of the search firm the EISD secured, said the names of the applicants cannot be released to the public. According to Texas law, only the lone finalist’s name may be made known. Once the board narrows their selection to one, they must wait 21 days before being allowed to make an official offer. Unconfirmed reports suggest the Sept. 14 deadline for applying passed with approximately 70 responding, each accompanied with a resume and supporting documents, all being sent to the search firm. A breakdown by gender of applicants wasn’t available at press time. However, 27 respondents are current superintendents within the state while another 24 are on staff at respective district central offices. Four others are principals who are qualified as are 15 from higher education positions, or are consultants, not currently employed or who work for Educational Service Centers.
