Department reaches out on elder fraud problem

Det. Sgt. Mark Mahoney of the Ennis Police Department spoke with the Retired School Personnel Association on Thursday about the dangers of identity theft and how it affects the elderly.

The Ennis Police Department has pursued several cases over the past two years where an elderly person is targeted by scam artists, pretending to be a grandchild in need. Often the elder loses thousands of dollars before the ruse is discovered.
