Downtown gas leak quickly resolved


Construction workers may have caused a small gas leak that led people to evacuate several offices and business along Baylor Street between Main and Dallas streets on Wednesday. People either evacuated or came out to investigate from nearby offices and buildings and as a safety precaution workers with Atmos were quickly on the scene as was the Ennis Fire Department after a gas line was ruptured around 11:30 a.m. By noon crews had the leak contained and no further action was required, though a small section of Baylor Street was closed for a short time until the leak could be fixed. Construction crews who have been working on a major downtown reconstruction project have also been working in the alleys between Baylor and Main streets.
