Dreams of white Christmases in Ennis rarely come true

Looking a lot like Christmas has everything to do with location. Erie, Pennsylvania, between Cleveland and Buffalo, gets plenty of snow due to the effects of Lake Erie. Ennis, Texas struggles to receive even a flake in spite of its proximity to Lake Bardwell. Erie has already measured 73.5 inches of the white stuff, more than double their normal amount this time of year. Syracuse and Buffalo, both in upstate New York, are a distant second and third, each beneath their normal accumulation. Ennis’ own weather man, Ron Vestal, has been charting the local atmospheric conditions for 44 years. Equipped with the gadgets of meteorologists, Vestal is skilled in his observation and projections, let alone the fact he keeps meticulous notes. He has charted snowfall in Ennis on Christmas Eve or Christmas day only three times since 1975. Read this story and more in your Weekday edition of The Ennis News. Be informed, subscribe today!
