Elderly couple escapes crash with semi

An elderly couple walked away with only minor injuries after the back of their SUV was hit by an 18-wheeler on Monday morning. Two police units, a fire engine and an ambulance were called to the 10000 block of Ennis Ave., around 9 a.m. where they found an SUV in the ditch just outside the Shell Station after it was rear needed by a semi. Police said the elderly couple had slowed down to allow a vehicle in front of them to turn into the gas station when they were hit from behind. The SUV then careened into the ditch before coming to rest just outside the gas station. Police said the driver of the semi was unharmed, but cited for failure to control speed. The two occupants of the SUV were transported via ambulance to Baylor Dallas for their injuries. Read this story and more in your Weekday edition of The Ennis News. Be informed, subscribe today!
