Ennis Class of 2018 honored, over 300 graduate

Beyond Friday night’s Ennis High School graduation, above the pageantry and past the everlasting rendition of the iconic “Pomp and Circumstance,” was an ironic scene more in keeping with the origin of the song. Over 380 seniors, introduced by principal David Averett and certified by EISD Superintendent Dr. John E. Chapman, III, marched across the stage amid cheers and applause to receive their diplomas. They exited to their seats, and then later took the wheel to drive into their future. One of 34 students with perfect attendance and a driver’s license, Autumn Hambrick, did so with a brand new Fiesta from Ennis Ford. It was also a farewell of sorts for Ennis High School Principal David Averett, who is moving positions within the district. “I am excited to conduct my 11th and final commencement exercises for Ennis High School,” said Averett prior to the commencement exercises. “Graduation night is most definitely the highlight of my year as the principal.
