GAKAC plans additions

Phil Banker, phil@ennisdailynews.com

The organizers behind Give a Kid a Chance, the annual back-to-school event for local economically disadvantaged students and families, plan to offer two new services in the coming months.

Event coordinator Marty Nelson said Thursday the group is currently planning to inaugurate a new program to help provide shoes to Ennis’s neediest children.

The “Watch-Me-Run” initiative, he said, will provide a new pair of shoes to all students who currently participate in the Lion Cubs food backpack program.
