Give-A-Kid-A-Chance needs shoes and volunteers

Mark Wardeeditor@ennisdailynews.com

The annual Give-Kid-A-Chance “Back-to-School” event is over five weeks away and meeting the needs of 1,200 children is fueling the efforts of organizers.

Mission Ennis Bridgebuilders has enough money to fund most of the items they have ordered but still lack finances for 100 pair of shoes. That project is called “Watch Me Run.”

Held on Saturday, Aug. 16, GAKAC plans to distribute over $34,000 of free supplies, including uniforms ($20,652), school supplies ($9,478.97) and backpacks ($4,193.79). The project starts at 8 a.m. and ends at 1 p.m.
