Judge denies land owners in HSR case

Texas Central, the private company proposing to build a high-speed rail line between Dallas and Houston, issued a statement on Jan. 25 in response to a ruling from Ellis County Judge Jim Chapman. The company went to court in Waxahachie on Jan. 16 in a suit against three Ellis County landowners who countered by deciding to consolidate their three cases into one in opposition to the HSR company. The hearing lasted three and one-half hours with Chapman saying he would mull over the arguments and issue a declaration, likely requiring a week. According to Texas Central, he denied the trio of landowners their request to combine their cases while at the same time also declining a motion from Texas Central for a summary judgment. If granted, the judgment would have voided the need for the trial and allowed the company to survey their land. Read stories like this and more in your latest edition of The Ennis News.
