After a hard-fought win in Red Oak to open district play, Lady Lion softball put a whipping on the hawks when they arrived in Ennis on Saturday night.

The Lady Lions (19-9, 7-2) won their sixth game in a row with a 7-1 victory over the Hawks. Ennis finished with more hits (12-7) and each team committed four errors in the windy conditions, as the Lady Lions blew the game open with a six-run fourth inning.

“We struggled early in the game to take advantage of our opportunities on offense and did everything we could to give (the Hawks) a chance to take control, but at the same time the girls made some big-time plays to escape the trouble we got in,” said coach Rodney McNeill. “We put pressure on them by putting the ball in play hard and running a lot. Eventually the mistakes came and we took advantage; I think we forced some of their miscues.”

Taylor Maliska (7 IP, 1 R — 0 ER, 7 H, 1 HBP, 9 SO) was very solid as usual in the circle, as she went yet another district game without allowing an earned run.
