Letter carriers food drive collection smallest on record

While the motto of the U.S. Postal Service remains, “neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds,” but an onslaught of rain surely hindered their collection of canned goods several weeks ago. In fact, the nationwide Letter Carriers’ “Stamp Out Hunger” Food Drive, the largest all-volunteer, one-day food collection effort, held annually on the second Saturday in May, has experienced heavy rains during their last three (2017-2019) attempts to collect bags and boxes of goods left outside. As a result, Helping Hands of Ennis, who receive what is purchased and given by the community, had their smallest amount of food staples ever.
