Lionettes sail in high-seas performance

The Ennis High School Lionettes performed in a show on a cruise ship over spring break. They were on the water from March 14-19. Celebrating 30 years since they began as a drill and dance team at Ennis High School, the Lionettes took their show on the road, so to speak, with a Caribbean cruise during spring break a week ago. About 25 of them, along with a host of assistants, parents and chaperones hit the high seas, March 14-19, aboard the Vision of the Seas from the Royal Caribbean cruise line. According to one chaperone, Patty Hullett, “the entire entourage had a wonderful time. The Ennis kids were great and represented the school and the city so well.” Director Tia Hensley planned a surprise treat that was included in the cruise package. She arranged for the Lionettes to receive a dance lesson with the ship’s dance professionals. The choreography class included different entrances onto the stage as well as leap sequences. As an added benefit, the girls were taught the beginning of the ship’s “Boogie Wonderland” routine. They were featured performing the routine on the main stage on the last night of the cruise. Perhaps the highlight of their trip came on Sunday, Mar. 18, when the troupe had the honor of performing a 30-minute set of dance routines in the Masquerade Theater, which is the main venue of the huge ship. Those who made the voyage included Katelyn Beard, Brooke Betik, Molly Brown, Autumn Burden, Ella Coleman, Payton Davis, Gracie Fisher, Leslie Franco, Magaly Gonzalez, Caden Hensley, Gabby Herrera, Emma Howard, Micayla Jenkins, Morgan Massey, Whitney Parish, Abbie Ray, Audrey Redning, Sarah Reeve, Makenzie Reyes, Sarah Rider, I’asya Saif, Presley Saenz and Madeline Zmolic.
