Essay Earns Scholarship for Ennis Senior Gracie Bell Earns $3,000 Towards College

Ennis senior Gracie Bell recently was awarded $3,000 in college scholarship money for an essay she wrote in a state-wide competition that drew 1,558 students’ written or spoken essays. The Texas Department of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) hosted the event in which the Top 10 contestants attended an all-expense paid trip to Austin a week ago. While there Bell learned her essay, submitted in the Voices of Democracy competition, was announced as seventh best. EISD officials are not aware of any other Top 10 winner from Ennis over the past two decades. After winning the funds, which are provided for college education expenses, she made her parents very proud. Robert Bell, her father, is the commandant and founder of the Ellis County (Detachment 1452) Marine Corps League. Her mother is Jeannie. Gracie also has a sister, Madison, 14.
