School shooting in Denver continues dilemma – Palmer heightens safety with multi-level defense

Palmer ISD Superintendent Kevin Noack knows a thing or two about putting protective gear, from football helmets, to levels of school security. In the wake of another school shooting, this one on the south side of Denver, the impact of such violence reverberates around the nation. Just 15 months ago the Ellis County town of Italy, just 21 miles south of Ennis, faced their own rogue gunman. Ten times since January of this year an American school or college has experienced someone taking a gun to a campus and opening fire. It occurred six more times during the fall semester. The reasons vary and preventing these tragedies seems impossible. “No matter what line of defense you have in place, if someone is really determined they will find a way,” said Kevin Noack, district superintendent over Palmer schools. “It is scary.
