Spurgeons tribute Saturday at Texas Motorplex – Moment of silence, 21 gun salute planned

Following the funeral services on Monday in Irving for Mike Spurgeon, Sr. and his adult son, Michael Spurgeon, Jr., both were scheduled to remembered at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Texas Motorplex. Bardwell Police Chief Mike Spurgeon, Sr. (67), and his adult son, Michael Spurgeon, Jr. (40), a volunteer firefighter in Bardwell, were very involved at the race track, the father in security, the son as a starter for over a decade. While the day at the Motorplex has a full racing card that begins with time trials in the morning and racing the afternoon and evening, there will be a moment of silence in their honor before the first round begins at 1 p.m. According to an announcement on Facebook, a 21 gun salute was scheduled but an exact time wasn’t known by press time on Friday. Friends and well-wishers were encouraged to arrive around noon in the event the schedule changes. Mentioning the Spurgeons when entering the gate would waive admission, though a $10 parking fee would remain intact. Read stories like this and more in your latest edition of The Ennis News.
