Man with cerebral palsy makes it by with horse

For 30-year-old Josh Kirkpatrick and his parents, life has never been easy.

Kirkpatrick was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at birth after his umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck. For the past 30 year, Josh has been confined to a wheelchair, unable to walk or even move without some struggle. With Josh’s condition, which affects his gross and fine motor skills, he requires assistance almost every waking hour of the day. That’s why he lives with his parents outside Palmer.

Josh’s daily routine differs from that of the average 30-year-old in that he requires help in whatever he does: getting dressed, bathing and even eating. His hobbies, however, don’t differ from those of an average 30-year-old. Josh likes sitting in his rink-side seats at Allen Americans minor league hockey games, closely following all his favorite sports teams on TV and debating politics with his close friends and family. He does all these things alongside his parents, his PopPop, Tom Kirkpatrick, or his part-time caretaker who watches him during the day.
