Mayor to be recognized

Mayor Russell Thomas will be recognized along with two city retirees during Monday night’s City Commission meeting at City Hall.

Thomas has served as mayor for the past 18 years, having been elected to the position nine times. This year, though, the mayor is hanging up his hat.

Ahead of the May 7 election, Monday’s meeting will serve as the final one before the City has a new mayor-elect.

The meeting comes amid a City election in which two Ennisites are grappling for the mayoral seat. Early voting at Ennis Public Library for Monday closes an hour before the Commission meeting begins, at 6 p.m.
